Cloud Gate
Completed in 2006, "The Bean," as Cloud Gate is affectionately called, is one of Chicago’s most beloved landmarks. Made of 168 stainless steel plates seamlessly welded together, this 110-ton sculpture reflects and distorts the city’s skyline, inviting visitors to explore their own reflections from every angle. Inspired by liquid mercury, Kapoor designed Cloud Gate to create a dynamic relationship between the artwork and its environment, making it an ever-changing spectacle. Its central archway allows people to walk beneath and interact with its "omphalos," a mirrored concave space that warps perspectives in mesmerizing ways.

Crown Fountain
Crown Fountain is an interactive public artwork that redefines the traditional concept of a fountain. Designed by Plensa, the piece consists of two 50-foot glass towers that display video projections of Chicago residents’ faces. Water cascades down the towers, and at intervals, the digital faces appear to "spit" water into the shallow reflecting pool below, a nod to historical fountains with gargoyle spouts. The piece seamlessly combines technology, water, and human expression, making it both a playful and symbolic tribute to the people of Chicago. Completed in 2004, Crown Fountain continues to be a favorite gathering place, especially for children and families on hot summer days.
